  • The Rev. W. J. Bradbury

From the Bridge Priest Bill Bradbury April 5, 2024

    Friends,

I am looking forward to my time (short or long) with all of you. You may call me “Bill”; little kids often call me “Reverend Bill,” and if it is your tradition, I will also respond to Father Bill.

Grew up in Atlanta at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church

Majored in Religion at the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!)

Master in Divinity (an arrogant claim!) at Virginia Theological Seminary

Served churches in Dioceses of Atlanta and Georgia then 20 years as rector of St. Peter’s, Washington, NC on the Pamlico River in the Diocese of East Carolina.

In 2006 served as rector of Grace, New Bedford until 2012 when I became Priest in Charge and then rector of All Saints’, Chelmsford, from which I retired in January 2020 after 42 years of full-time ministry.

In June 2020 I was Bridge Priest (quarter-time) at St. Andrew’s, Methuen until July 2022.

In July 2022 I served as Bridge Priest (18 hours/week) at St. James, Groveland for 14 months.

In September served as Bridge Priest (18 hours/week) 4 months at the Episcopal Churches in Lowell—St. Anne’s and St. John’s.

I have two married kids: Katie, who leads admissions for St. Mary’s School, a college prep school for girls in Raleigh; Andy, a Nurse Practitioner in Chapel Hill.

    I have 4 grandkids, ages 15 to 8.

Stephanie, also a priest, and I were married by Bishop Shaw in 2010. She is currently Interim Rector of St. Andrew’s, Ayer. Her son Duncan lives in Baltimore, MD and her son Jax is a sophomore at Clark University in Worcester.

We have lived in Lowell since 2018. I enjoy reading, movies (as you’ll see from my sermons) podcasts, walking, and playing tennis twice a week.

Love to preach and teach on the good news of God coming to us in Jesus Christ (instead of us having to climb up to God) and learning to know and serve the God revealed in Jesus who is Universal Love, “beyond us, beside us, and within us.”

My days off are Monday and Tuesday, so I won’t be looking at email those days. Email is rev.wjbradbury@gmail.com. If you need to reach me quickly, please send a text—my cell is 774-451-7413. And please notify me if you are in the hospital or otherwise in need.

During my time at St. Stephen’s, in addition to leading worship, pastoral care and getting to know newcomers, I’d love to talk with any and all about growing in our life in Christ. I prefer to meet in local coffee shops or anywhere that works for you.

    See y’all Sunday.

    Courage in Christ,

    Bill Bradbury
