Eleven months ago, I got the news that my then nine-year-old grandson Levi had been diagnosed with medulla blastoma, a malignant brain tumor. This devastating news was made worse because of the deep dysfunction and nearly complete lack of communication within the family.
Almost one year later, Levi is just back from a Disney cruise under the auspices of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. His tracheotomy tube has been removed and the area healed so he could go swimming. In a few months he will undergo tests to see if the cancer is gone or if further treatment is needed.
Family communication mostly happens through social media and text messages as well as visits to the four Boston hospitals where Levi has received treatments. God has walked with us through it all and the people of St. Stephen’s have been and continue to be members of Team Levi.
Thank you, Irene Axelrod
