Parish Prayer: Gracious and loving God, be with St. Stephen’s community and Search Committee as we transition to a new Rector. May the Search Committee be guided by the Holy Spirit as they continue in their efforts to accomplish their mission.

St. Stephen’s has begun the process of searching for a new Rector, following the departure of The Rev. Jane Gould in November of 2017. Our Interim Priest, The Rev. Tom Barrington, came to us having just served at as the Bridge Priest and Interim at Bristol Trinity Church in Easton, MA.
Search Committee: After much consideration, prayer and review, the Search Committee was commissioned by the Wardens and Vestry in March of 2018. Meeting twice a month or more frequently, the Committee uses diocesan tools and guidelines to complete this most important task of helping to find a new rector. While the hope is to complete this within 12 to 18 months, there is no deadline for this discernment. The search is only complete when the next spiritual leader for St. Stephen’s has been found, and this process must not be rushed. The period of self- study is now transitioning to gathering information from the parish, using that information to build the Parish Profile. Once the Vestry, congregation, and Diocese approves the Parish Profile, it is uploaded to the website. Then applicants can begin to apply and we will begin to narrow the search to four or five candidates. Ultimately, the Search Committee will recommend a final candidate to Vestry. The Vestry will then vote on whether or not to call the candidate to be our next rector. Throughout this process our goal is to update the parish regularly our progress.

Parish Survey and Small Group Discussions
Thank you to all who have completed the St. Stephen’s parish survey which was due October 1, 2018. The information collected will be used to further our understanding of what your hopes and dreams for St. Stephen’s are as we continue the process of calling a new rector.
St. Stephen’s is a diverse population and as such we wanted to utilize multiply tools to receive information that will guide the search. We will hold individual interviews and small group discussions. All of this information will be used exclusively by the Search Committee. So your honest and frank comments will be solicited and honored. Furthermore, we will be building a Parish Profile that will be uploaded to the website for you and future candidates to view in order to understand who St. Stephen’s is, has been, and hopes to be.
The Parish Profile is scheduled to be complete by the end of this year and will then be linked to this website.
