SEPTEMBER KICK-OFFS! It’s time for our children and youth programs to gear back up after summer break.Acolytes will beign this year’s service rotation with the Acolyte Olympics on Saturday September 17th.Church School begins on Sunday September 18th.The youth will regather in OASIS beginning on September 9th, and the afterschool drop-in, The Spot will open on Tuesday September 13th. A REFLECTION ON KIDS IN COMMUNITY Kids in Community was an abundantly blessed ministry this year! Thanks to the generosity of local donors and the organizing efforts of ECCO, the program secured enough teen jobs funding to hire 20 teen mentors, the largest KiC staff to date.Supervising these mentors and overseeing the operations of the camp was a staff of three consisting of Charlie Knuth, Stephanie Collins, and Heather Murphy.Teens and staff welcomed 119 children from the Lynn community and over the course of 4 weeks worked at forming a healthy community through expressive art and poetry projects, theater and dance, sports and games, and mentor-led times focusing on theater, baking, art, and dance. On Thursdays, KiC moved offsite for field trips to places such as the Boston Children’s Museum, Stone Zoo, the New England Aquarium, a Navigators game at Frasier Field, and the Museum of Science. And while camp concluded with a giant community cookout and talent show, 16 campers seized the opportunity to spend the first week of August at the Barbara C. Harris Camp for free. The KiC staff are immensely grateful to all who helped make this program a success especially the teen mentors, Josh Black, Linda Bleu, Bonnie Bishop, Jason Cruz, Ginny Fuller, Mark Provost, Debbie Potter, Harry Jackson, Joanne Rheaume, and the Barbara C. Harris Camp. Thank you for another great summer of fellowship and wonderment!

BCH CAMP Hello St. Stephen’s! My name is Patrice Lafortune. I am the son of Patrick Lafortune and Beatrice Lafortune.I had the opportunity to participate in camp twice this summer. My favorite moment at BCH camp was Monday.I had soccer for the morning activity. My team won!My other favorite moment at the camp was when we ate the food.It was delicious!!! Especially the monkey bread. Finally I want to say thank you to St. Stephen’s and Rev. Jane Gould who helped me to have a great summer time. My hope is that my family and I will have family vacation time at Barbara C. Harris camp next year. --Patrice Lafortune OASIS IN NYCFrom August 7-12, fifteen teens and four adult mentors served in various food pantries, soup kitchens, and homeless shelters in New York City.Approximately 2,400 hungry and homeless people were served. The youth had meaningful expereinces that deepened their understandings of themselves and the world around them.
BCH Camp Summer Fun 2010
BARBARA C. HARRIS CAMP.This summer has been full of camp activities! In total more than 50 young people from St. Stephen’s went to BCH for a week of church camp and five St. Stephen’s young adults were BCH counselors or staff. What a year! "So what exactly do you guys do at St. Stephen's?" asked Jerome, a British Lifeguard, who was spending his first summer at the Barbara C. Harris Camp. Amidst the chaos of the first week of camp, it was clear to everyone that St. Stephen's Lynn was not your average parish. We had the most staff members from one parish, the most campers from one parish and every week it seemed that at least one chaplain was connected to St. Stephen's. So is St. Stephen's in the house at BCH? Without a doubt and The Camp is grateful.-- Sam Gould While I was at camp, I was in YLA (Youth Leadership Academy). I had an awesome group and an awesome time. I felt closer to God than ever. The weather was intense but that didn't stop me from having fun. The music was my favorite part of camp. We had some rockout sessions that were not only loud but fun. Leaving was the worst part. Everybody was nice and no one judges each other. Camp has such a good environment that it made me feel like I never wanted to leave. That week was the sixth time I've gone to camp and I'm more than excited to go plenty of more times.-Vicky Njuguna I really enjoyed going to this camp. It was so fun with all of the activities I could do. I want to go for two weeks next year. This is like my most relaxing time during the year. I really had fun. –Erik Whitcomb
